tI started oil painting in 1983. The
pictures here date from about 1988 to 1993. However, the last two
paintings were finished after my stay in Switzerland.
The paining of the three boys with a dagger
was my response to being mustered for conscription. War seemed like
a game played by children ignorant of their actions. I acknowledge
that this is simplistic but the virtue of war still eludes me.
The fourth painting was part of my
ill-fated application to the West-Berliner art academy.
The fifth painting is a picture of Dida
Zende, my artist friend, with whom I shared a studio in Berlin.
The last two paintings on this page are of
the first to be finished after my return from Switzerland. They come
from a time when I was very interested in Jung's archetypes, and the
similarities between myth and deep psychology. I was particularly
interested in the fact that both myth and psychology presumed the
existence of a collective human psychology.
