African writings for my children

Prelude

I am sitting under African sky. The same sun shines here. Birds are in the trees. The air is what you breathe. People talk to each other. Children love their parents. Sometimes I feel like a white man. Sometimes I don't. Then I look around and I am home.

There are things I do not understand and my lack of knowledge urges me to talk.

There are things I do understand and I am at peace.

Everything tells me I am a stranger in every possible way, but I do not feel this way.

I have family here.

 

Gospel

To find hope we need to search our hearts.

Success never comes to one man alone.

 

Law

When fear and anxiety affect you, guide your breath towards the earth, for this is where eventually all things must go.

Then lift your spirit and look up where all things share the same sky.

Now, open your heart and allow joy to fill you, for there is no more than this moment, and this will always be.

 

Wisdom

In life things are handed to us of different value.

Things come. Things go.

The most valuable possession is faith for sometimes things are ahead and sometimes things are behind.

It is easy to be deceived by appearances and appearances can be frightening.

A person who is frightened is desperate and often angry.

As a frightened person one does not see the possibilities that abound around us and we feel lost and alone.

Thus a frightened person seeks power, hoping that power will defeat the cause of fear.

Fear cannot be defeated with power.

Power serves power.

Fear breeds fear.

Fear can only be overcome through faith.

Faith is a state without fear.

Fear cannot be suppressed without it expressing itself as anger.

But faith can be nourished.

The dream is the source of faith.

Faith results from dreaming.

People who lack dreams are stuck in a fearful world.

A dream defines our relationship to the world.

People who dream of things that only serve themselves are afraid and lack faith.

They will never have success.

Other people will not give them freely, and if forced, success will come without the peace of heart.

We dream with our hearts.

If we have faith, if fear does not distort the voice of the heart,

we only know love and compassion.

A faith that does not express itself in love and compassion is not guided by the heart but by the fear of rejection.

It often leads to the rejection of others who do not conform to the 'same' faith.

There is only one faith free of fear.

The faith that comes from the heart.

There is only one dream that leads to this faith.

The dream of love and compassion.

Understand that all things are somewhere part of one thing.

A living cell is an organism in its own right, yet it thrives through its awareness of greater union that allows it to be part of a bigger body.

Every minute a cell in our body dies but we live on.

There is a greater awareness than the one we hold.

Faith is knowledge of this, that cannot be reasoned.

It is through our dream that we take part in this bigger awareness.

If there is beauty in life, it is in every cell of the body.

Thus it is possible for us to be nourished by faith and the dream that feeds it.

The purpose of community is to nourish the dreams of its members.

A community that fails to do this is ill and will eventually fall apart.

No body or community outlasts its dream.

The dream cannot be owned by some.

It belongs to all.

Those who wish to persevere need to serve a dream that embraces all.

An openness to all of existence and a complete lack of fear, defy the illusion of life and death to which all things are subjected.

 

Power

Seek the power of the heart.

This power will lead you straight to your weakness, the cause of your fear.

It is only through knowing your weakness that you can know your power.

 

Faith

When a man or woman tell you of evil things in this world or when you see such things for yourself, do not despair and let it touch your heart with fear.

It is that very fear that prompts this evil.

Think of the devil not as something outside of God.

The devil is a power that increases our fear by supplying that which we crave out of fear.

If only you have faith.

If you have faith and your heart is pure you need not fear evil for there is nothing you need to ask of it.

We come into this world because we were stuck in a world that is much more beautiful.

There we are much more in touch with God.

There we shall return.

This life is necessary to teach us through the needs and limitations of the body.

We need this body to learn this.

If we loose it without completing our lesson, we are likely to be born into yet another body to serve our awareness.

Seen like that there is no true evil for all suffering is temporary and it is through our suffering that we will overcome this world of suffering.

We suffer when we are born.

We suffer while we live.

We suffer when we die.

But we only suffer if our heart is not pure.

If we have the purity of heart that is free of fear then our lesson is learnt and our suffering turns into compassion for the world and all that suffers in it.

This state is as if heaven has come to earth.

A new light fills the world that illuminates all things from within.

A time will come when the collective compassion will elevate the awareness in this world so that what we call material, with all of its laws of nature, will dissolve.

This is because each world also harbours a collective lesson.

When you see a desert or dead space somewhere do not assume it detached from spirit.

The inhabitants of such a world may be stuck in a different world, which is not visible to our eyes until we too free ourselves of the fears that have lead us here where we are.

There is no other limit to a world than the fear of suffering that stops its inhabitants from the purity of heart that brings communion with all of creation.

If you only have faith.

Love is.

 

Kung Fu

The world we live in is not fair.

But if something hurts you it is perhaps that you yourself cannot let it go.

Those who know how to yield will fill the space between the powers of this world.

Thus through yielding we become aware of these powers and find it easy to step out of their ways.

 

Truth

If you find two people in disagreement talking about the same matter, do not be tempted to think there is one who is right and one who is wrong.

We all hold our own truth.

Truth is not a simple thing until it embraces all truths.

If you see all truths you will see that there is no need for judgement.

Truth merely needs to be heard.

Justice is when we are heard.

Therefore try not to win an argument.

Moreover ask yourself what it is that is in the other persons heart.

You will often find that in our hearts we seek the same things and that our disagreement was born out of our fear of not being heard in the first place.

Once we believe in our fears they become truth.

Spiritual truth is free of fear and judgement.

If you are afraid spiritually you do not follow your heart.

It is through our hearts that we are connected to a greater awareness.

It is through our hearts that we know God.
